A section of the newly constructed Mwache – Kipevu road in Mombasa has been closed to the public after the slopes along the road started developing cracks. The Southern bypass adjacent to Mombasa International Airport and the SGR will in the next weeks undergo maintenance after debris started falling on the highway. Kenya National Highways Authority says, engineers are on site examining the geological phenomenon.
According to Kenya National Highways Authority, the underground water movement has caused the eruption of soil at sections of the 800 meters stretch of the Kipevu – Mwache bypass, in Mombasa.
Huge cracks started developing, resulting to eruption of rock fragments which have completely blocked one side of the road from SGR station towards Mombasa central Business District.
KENHA says the road will be temporarily closed to the public, to allow for necessary monitoring and engineering interventions by geo technical experts.
